A local school received a national award from our nation's capital Tuesday.

News Channel 5 reports Holy Family Catholic School in Stow received its 2012 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award in Washington, D. C. on Tuesday.

Only 50 private schools receive the award each year, with Holy Family being ranked in the top 10 percent in the nation in reading and math.

The prestigious award is given to both public and private elementary, middle and high schools by the United States Department of Education based on academic accomplishments.
