North Canton police hope to nab a pair of mailbox thieves...who put in a flier, and take out checks.

North Canton police detective Randy Manse says that the pair are putting those flu shot filers in the mailboxes, looking for signs that there's something they can steal inside.

"They're going around the neighborhoods and seeing if someone has a red flag up on their mailbox," Detective Manse tells AkronNewsNow.com. "If there's a red flag they're putting the flier in, and taking the person's personal mail out that's supposed to go out to the mail carrier."

Detective Manse says that lets the thieves use the checks to take out cash.

"They're getting personal checks and copying the person's account information, and then going and depositing the checks in the person's account, and then withdrawing money off the bad checks."

The thefts have been happening in the southwest part of North Canton. Police say their suspects are an older balding white male and a white female with blonde hair, driving a white Lincoln Town Car.

Detective Manse says it's fine to put stuff like birthday cards in your outgoing mail, but not checks or anything that has personally identifying information.
