Summit County Elections Director Joe Masich says the first day of in-person voting went smoothly at the elections board office on Tuesday. Masich tells AkronNewsNow " Day 1 went quite well. We had a constant flow for most of the day. We really never had much of a line outside, but we had a constant flow in the lobby. I think we voted 1035 ballots here today."
Nearly double the number of early voters cast ballots in Summit County on the first day of early voting compared to the same day in 2008.
Masich says the turnout typically increases as the end of the early voting period arrives in early November.
'Typically close to the election it gets a little higher, but today was a good crowd. I dont know if we'll get a surge or not or a lull. It all depends on what activity is going on out there," says Masich.
Masich says the early voters he surveyed on Tuesday took an average of 15 to 25 minutes to vote.
The Summit County Elections Board offices will be open weekdays from 8am to 5pm for early voting through the end of October. The Board will be open until 9pm October 9th for the last day of voter registration.
