Summa Health System will be moving some of its corporate staff into the former Roadway Express Inc. corporate headquarters just off Route 8 in north Akron.

Summa's Jennifer Farquhar tells AkronNewsNow "Summa Health System acquired the former Roadway headquarters in Akron, and were planning to use it as an administrative office building for the various offices that we have, primarily that are on the campus of Summa Akron City Hospital"

She says Summa has its corporate offices scattered across the health system and the former Roadway building will consolidate those departments into a more efficient corporate operation.

"We'll be in close proximity to all the Summa hospitals, yet everyone will be together so we think it will bring some great energy to all the departments that do move there," says Farquhar. 800 Summa employees will move into the building on Gorge Boulevard. Farquhar says it will take several years to fully utilize the building.

Summa purchased the Roadway building this week for nearly $6.1 million.

Farquhar says within the next couple of months, Summa will start relocating administrative employees from the Akron City Hospital campus to the former Roadway site.
