You've heard of a number of door-to-door home improvement scams...how about offers to pave your asphalt driveway?
That's what happened to someone from Green last weekend.
Cynthia Sich, director of Consumer Affairs for Summit County, says that con-artists from out of town roam around looking for marks with fading driveways.
"A individual or several individuals in a unmarked pickup truck, usually with a lot of equipment in the back of it," Sich tells AkronNewsNow.com, "are driving around neighborhoods and looking for people with asphalt driveways that look like they need some repairs.
Sich says the "travelers" say they have leftover materials and offer a "great deal".
But Sich says they leave town after they're done.
"They're gonna do the repairs to your driveway, and it's going to be shoddy work with shoddy materials," Sich says, "and they're gone. And there's no way for us to locate them to get them to fix the job, or to get your money back."
Sich says call the Office of Consumer Affairs if you're not sure, and deal with trusted, local companies.
