The help wanted sign is out at an Akron institution -- only problem is, you've got to be a monster to apply and Monster.com won't be of much help
For the 39th season Akron's Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory is hiring dozens of seasonal workers for it's Triplett Boulevard Halloween screams house.
Fred Coladonato works as "The Undertaker" and helped with the first job fair Sunday afternoon. There's another scheduled for 1:00 p.m. next Sunday at 1300 Triplett Blvd. in Akron.
"The Undertaker" tells AkronNewsNow.com there's a limited number of hiring for the seasonal positions because it's a popular job, and the attraction does get a "lot of monsters coming back from year to year," but everyone applying for a position has an equal opportunity at open positions for the people behind the scary entertainment.
Applicants fill out a brief application and have their pictures taken to see if they will be a good fit for the displays; Coladonato says it's important to make sure the right person can act as Dracula and the right fit is picked for someone playing Frankenstein. He also points out there have been those applying for the job with a fear of the dark in the past -- not exactly the skill set they're looking for in a Haunted Schoolhouse.
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age but there are job hopefuls in the C's. Coladonato says the short season is attractive to holiday seasonal job seekers with the Christmas shopping season just around the corner. He also says the money workers make leading up to Halloween provides a nice boost to holiday gift shopping cash, too.
