Akron Wrong Way Crash Victim Dies

That wrong way crash on I-76 that closed the eastbound lanes for hours Thursday night and Friday morning has claimed a life.

Akron Police report that 55-year old Karen Briggs of Akron died at City Hospital of her injuries Friday afternoon. .

A 61-year old woman driving her SUV the wrong way on the Interstate around 10 Thursday night near the Brittain Road exit plowed into Briggs car. A third car then hit Briggs.

Three other people were treated for their injuries and released. The wrong-way driver remains hospitalized with what are described as non-life threatening injuries .

Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
