Copley Police are looking for a man who approached an 8-year old girl waiting for a school bus in the 400 block of South Hametown Road near Ridgecrest around 8:30 this (Wednesday) morning.. The girl told police a blue-green pick-up truck pulled into a driveway next to where she was waiting for the school bus. The driver asked her several times to get into the truck, but she ignored him, and eventually he drove away.
Lieutenant Luke Marchmon says police are still working on a description of the suspect, but it appears he may have been a mid to older white male.
Marchmon says the man never made physical contact with the girl, and that she did get on the school bus and made it to school safely.
There have been no similar incidents reported this school year. Copley Police have been patrolling neighborhoods in the mornings and afternoons when the buses pick up and drop off students since classes started this year. Officers have been using marked and unmarked vehicles and plan to continue to do so in the near future.
Copley Police are advising parents to watch their children as they walk to or from school bus stops. If parents cannot be present when their children leave for school in the morning or return in the afternoon they're advised to consider asking a neighbor or other responsible adult to monitor their children until they're on the bus or back in their home.
