CAK Heating Up, Busiest Month Ever

Akron-Canton Airport is celebrating another record breaking month. More than 172,000 customers flew in and out of the airport in July making it the busiest month in history. That's a 12 percent increase from the same time last year.

(Akron-Canton Airport Press Release) It’s a three-peat! For the third consecutive month, Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) is celebrating its busiest month ever. Marking a 65-year monthly passenger record, 172,571 Customers travelled to/from CAK in July, beating out both May and June. Compared to July of last year, the airport hosted 17,800 more passengers in 2012; a twelve percent increase. For the first seven months of the year, 1,046,841 travelers flew to/from CAK, up 12 percent compared with the first seven months of 2011. July 2012 also marks the 16th consecutive month of record-breaking year-over-year passenger traffic.

“Customers continue to be attracted to our low fares and relaxing airport experience,” said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. “That’s why we are thrilled that Southwest Airlines has landed at CAK, keeping our airfares low. They definitely help make Akron-Canton Airport a better way to go.”
AirTran Airways (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines) offering nonstop service to Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, New York, and Boston increased 26 percent compared to July 2011 carrying 92,652 total passengers.

Frontier Airlines flying Airbus 320s nonstop to Denver was up 13 percent compared to last year.

US Airways, with flights to Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. (Reagan), increased by 17 percent. United with flights to Chicago O’Hare, increased by 1 percent.


Further, Southwest Airlines recently began two daily nonstop trips to Chicago Midway along with replacing AirTran’s nonstop flight to Denver. Southwest tickets can only be purchased at southwest.com.
