Muskingum County Police received a call Sunday morning about a women who was found naked, badly burned and with a rope around her neck.

The identity of the woman, 29 and from Canton, is being withheld because she is also a rape victim.

"This is one of the most gruesome things i have seen in 23 and a half  years of law enforcement," said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.

News Channel 5 reports the victims was located by a passerby at the intersection of SR 208 and Steel Hill Road around 8:30 a.m.

After further investigation police found a crime scene not far from the victim in a wooded area. They later found a blue pick-up truck that belongs to the women's father on Dueber Avenue in Canton. That vehicle was towed to the Canton Police Department.

The women is now in a Columbus Hospital where she is listed in critical condition with fourth degree burns over most of her body.

The victims father told NewsChannel 5 he wants the person who did this off the street. "This is a vicious animal; the man should be taken off the street and put away," he said.

Canton P.D. and The Muskingum County Sheriff are working together on the case.
