A 4-year-old girl was injured after she was struck by her grandmother's van Tuesday night in Springfield Township.

Troopers with the Canton Post of the State Highway Patrol said the 70-year-old grandmother was backing out of a driveway on Canton Road when she opened the driver's door to say goodbye to her granddaughter around 8 p.m.

Troopers said it appears the door struck the girl when the van was in reverse. The vehicle also hit several trees.

The 4-year-old was taken to Akron Children's Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
