North Canton is under the Hollywood spotlight after a Lake High School graduate announced Wednesday he will film the football-themed movie "Underdogs" in the area this summer.

Director of the film, Doug Dearth, said he's ready to give back to the community and plans to film the movie in several other locations surrounding the Akron/Canton area, according to the movie's website.

The movie is centered around "a small-town high school football team destined to play their cross-town rival, a perennial powerhouse, while standing up for an entire community."

Dearth tells the Beacon Journal the movie will be filmed over a five week span beginning July 16th.

There will be an open casting call for extras as football players and cheerleaders this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m in the Hoover Building on East Maple Street.
