It's another record setting month for Akron-Canton Airport, making it the busiest month in history.
More than 158,000 customers traveled in and out of the airport in May, beating their old record by 3,000 which was set last year in July, according to Akron-Canton Airport officials. It's also the 14th consecutive month of record-breaking passenger traffic.
Compared to May of last year, the airport hosted nearly 12,000 more passengers in 2012; an eight percent increase.
So far this year, 705,335 travelers flew in and out of CAK, up 12 percent compared with the first five months in 2011.
Starting August 12, Southwest Airlines will begin two daily nonstop trips to Chicago Midway along with replacing AirTran’s nonstop flight to Denver.
Traffic is also up at each of the airlines stationed at the airport:
AirTran Airways - up 17 percent.
Frontier Airlines- up 22 percent
US Airways - up 9 percent
United - up 6 percent
Delta Air Lines - up slightly compared to last year
