Construction employment has fallen over the last year in nearly half of the 337 metropolitan areas surveyed.
Not in Akron.
In fact, Akron is leading the state and most of the country with 14% growth in construction, mining and logging jobs from May 2011 to last month. That's enough for Akron to be tied for 8th place nationwide.
The information comes from The Associated General Contractors of America. Their report shows Akron had 12,800 construction, mining or logging jobs last month, which is about 1,600 more than last year at the same time.
AGC data showed a few months ago that Akron ended 2011 with a 13% jump in construction jobs, behind Columbus at 14%. The latest figures show that Columbus lost 2% of its construction jobs.
