Colvin Convicted Of Murder

An Akron man heading to prison for at least the next 15 years after he was found guilty of murder.

36-year old Andre Colvin was part of a group that stomped 35-year old Anthony Jackson to death in 2007 after an argument in an after hours club on Bachtel Avenue. Colvin was on the run for four years before he was found in Texas this past February.

His co-defendents were already sentenced.

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Andre Colvin, 38, of Akron, was found guilty today by a jury of felony Murder and Felonious Assault. Colvin was sentenced by Judge Lynne Callahan to Life in prison with parole eligibility after 15 years.

Colvin has been on the run for four years and was found in Texas in February of this year by the Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force in conjunction with Texas Marshals. On October 19, 2007 the victim –  35 year old Anthony Jackson of Akron – and a friend went to an after hours club located on Bachtel Avenue in Akron to celebrate the victim’s birthday. An altercation started over a drink that was spilled by the victim’s friend. An argument broke out and co-defendant William Benford called Andre Colvin. The argument continued outside when some cars showed up. Colvin got out of one of the cars and attacked the victim. Colvin and his co-defendants stomped the victim some 36 times in the head. The victim was also hit in the head with a gun. The victim died from blunt force trauma to the head.Co-defendant William Benford was sentenced on June 24, 2008 to Life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. Kendra Horton, who was also involved, pled guilty to Felonious Assault on April 24, 2008 and was sentenced to four years of community control. She testified against both Benford and Colvin.
