Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) - news release

An Air Quality Advisory for ozone has been issued for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit Counties. The advisory will be effective on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Air quality levels will be 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' during this period.

If you are in the 'Sensitive Groups' category of children, the elderly and those with breathing difficulties, please monitor your outdoor activity and check live map of air quality readings.

High pressure and dry conditions dominate the area on Sunday. Pollutants accumulated due to stable atmospheric conditions will form ozone in the presence of abundant sunlight during afternoon period. Reduce your outdoor activities if you are in the sensitive group of people.

Help our region reduce air pollution

Limit the use of gas powered lawn mowers, yard equipment and construction equipment. Particles and chemicals released during gasoline combustion can aggravate asthma.

Avoid open burning. Smoke resulting from burning of leaves and brush, other vegetation, as well as backyard trash contains a number of hazardous air pollutants.
