Public Utilities Commissioner Lynn Slaby and members of the community attended a meeting Monday addressing FirstEnergy and their Electric Security Plan that is in effect through 2014. The renewal of the plan will keep electric rates stable, create jobs and expand Ohio's green energy industry throughout May of 2016.

PUCO Commissioner Slaby heard a number of testimonies from community leaders and residence all pleading to renew the security plan. Ranging from a Student from The University of Akron, to Summit County Executive Russ Pry, to the President of the Akron Urban League, Fred Wright just to name a few that made an appearence.

After an hour of positive support for FirstEnergy, Slaby spoke with AkronNewsNow, commenting on the meetings to follow. "This is the first of several hearing that the Public Utilities Commission will have around the northern area of Ohio."

There are a number of other details that are included in the renewal of the ESP, including making energy more affordable for lower income customers.

Additional meetings will be held in Toledo, June 7th and Cleveland June 12th.
