Hostess Brands, Inc. sent layoff notices to its 18,000 employees as the baked goods company proceeds through a bankruptcy. That includes a few dozen people in the Akron area who work for Wonder, a subsidiary of Hostess.
City of Akron Economic Development Director Bob Bowman says the city and the county have also received required notices about the bankruptcy.
Bowman says companies typically have various options in a bankruptcy, so the notifications don't necessarily mean that any local facilities or jobs will go away - only that it's a possibility within the next 60 days.
