Summit County Children Services is facing charges of violating bargaining laws when the agency negotiated a contract with the union representing case workers and other employees.

The Beacon Journal reports Local #4546 of the Communications Workers of America filed unfair labor practice complaints when the agency froze longevity bonuses earlier this year.

A new three-year contract was approved this month, but the head of the union said they are moving forward with the hearing because they do not want to see the same issue come up again in the future.

Before the hearing scheduled by the the State Employment Relations Board on May 16, the agency and the union will attempt to settle their differences through mediation.
