On Tuesday April 24th, every Akron Public School 11th grader will have the opportunity to take the American College Test, or more commonly known as the ACT. In the past students were required to go off site to another location to take the test but now with the help of the APS, Race to the Top Grant the ACT will be offered for free, during school hours.
"For students who weren't planning on going to college, this also could find those diamonds in the rough who really are prepared and who have the foundation skills, they just needed the reality check to tell them they really can do this." says Ellen McWilliams, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.
Students can gain reportable scores they can use to apply for colleges, or if they do poorly, have time to retake the test again as 12th graders.
