New Akron Postmaster Named

Akron has a new top postal worker.

William P. Jones III named 35th Postmaster of Akron effective the end of this week, overseeing operations at all mail stations and branches and their 425 employees. Most of his 37-year career with the Postal Service has been served in northeast Ohio.

(US Postal Service) William P. Jones III has been named the 35th Postmaster of Akron. Effective April 7, 2012, Jones will be responsible for overseeing mail collection, delivery services, and retail operations in the nine stations and branches of the Akron Post Office. The 425 employees of the Akron Post Office serve over 199,000 residents, delivering in excess of 460,000 pieces of mail a day.

Beginning his career in 1974 as a distribution clerk for the Cleveland Main Post Office, Jones went on to accept positions of increasing responsibility in Cleveland including supervisor, superintendent of mails, station manager, and Manager of Customer Services Operations. Jones has served in a variety of detail assignments in Northern Ohio including Officer-in-Charge of the Willoughby Post Office; Integrated Operation Plan Coordinator, Acting Manager of Post Office Operations, Acting Manager of Operations Programs Support and Acting Postmaster of Akron.

Jones holds Associates Degrees in Law Enforcement and Industrial Management and is a graduate of the USPS Advanced Leadership Program. Jones and his wife have two grown children.
