Edwin Shaw, the former tuberculosis hospital, children's center and cottages have officially been boarded up and the utilities have been shut off.

This decision comes after Summit County had been trying to sell the property for two years after Akron General terminated their lease at the end of 2009.The county was spending over 200 thousand dollars each of those years to maintain the property. The utilities were left on in hopes someone would buy the property.

Jason Dodson, Chief of staff for county Executive Russ Pry tell AkronNewsNow "Unfortunately theres not really a high level of interest right now."

The only glimmer of hope for the complex seems to be The University of Akron, who is considering a fire and police safety training course that requires a facility much like that of Edwin Shaws.

The land has been appraised at $2.4 million but it could cost equal that to tear down some of the smaller facilities.
