Early Sunday morning Bath Township Police arrested 18-year-old Mitchell Peterman on charges of underage drinking and obstruction.

The University of Akron student was in Bath Hills Park around 3 a.m., and while others escaped, Peterman was caught, taken into custody and returned to his home uncharged. He told police he was alone.

Later that morning, Peterman and his father returned to the park looking for his friends.

Bath Township Police arrested him again for lying about his companions. At the police station, Peterman refused to cooperate when taking his mug shot.

He covered his face with his hands while showing his middle finger and grabbing his crotch.

The mugshot was later put on the Bath Township Police Facebook page where the picture went viral.

Bath Police Chief Michael McNeely explained to AkronNewsNow that they use Facebook to keep the community aware that the police are actively addressing complaints filed by residents.

Peterman has apologized for the incident, and the picture was removed from the Facebook page by the police department.
