Two explosions rocked the Omnova Solutions chemical plant on East Archwood Avenue this afternoon.

Lieutenant Leon Henderson of the Akron Fire Dept tells AkronNewsNow.com  " There were some workers, private contractors, welding this tank, and what happened was once that heat got into the cylinder whatever chemiclas were in there, that what flashed over and exploded. Not only did it happen once, but it happened twice."

Henderson says employees in the chemical complex were temporarily evacuated, along with 40 employees of the Goodyear chemical plant next door, and nearby residents were warned to stay in their homes or if they were away from their neighborhood to stay away until the all clear was given.

The employees and residents have been allowed to return and the situation is returning to normal.

Numerous Akron fire and hazmat units responded to the scene and firefighters were hosing down the damaged tank.

Miraculously there were no injuries reported.

No damage estimate is available at this hour.
