A Canton hibachi-style cook has agreed to a plea bargain after serving a 2-year-old sake in November.
The Canton Repository reports 27-year old Mingyang Zhu of Canton was convicted of misdemeanor negligent assault after pleading no contest to the charges.
According to the newspaper, the judge suspended Zhu's jail sentence and ordered him to perform 40 hours of community service.
The child's parents told police Zhu squirted the sake, which is a Japanese rice wine into to the toddler's mouth while eating at the Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse on Strip Ave NW.
Police say Zhu was joking about whether or not the child was of legal drinking age while squirting the drink into the mouths of the adults sitting at the table. When he came back, this time he put the sake into the little boy's mouth, causing him to cry and complain that the drink burned his mouth according to witnesses at the table.
