An Akron woman who was trying to steal babies from local hospitals will avoid jail time if she completes community control.

Judge Patricia Cosgrove sentenced Lachana Williams to 18 months in prison and then suspended the sentence on the condition that she complete three years of community control  after pleading guilty on lesser charges of burglary during her pre-trial.

More serious charges of criminal tresspassing and attempted kidnapping were dismissed.

In December of last year, Williams staged a fake pregnancy and tried to sneak into the maternity ward of Summa Barberton Hospital.

Hospital staff said that her behavior raised eyebrows when she was spotted with a white bag containing a baby bottle, diapers, and pajamas.

Williams also reportedly tried to get into delivery areas at Akron Children's and Akron City Hospital unsuccessfully.
