One Akron City Councilman is planning to run for the State Legislature, saying he will bring a proactive approach to Columbus.

Current At-large councilman Jeff Fusco says he will be challenging newly elected Rep. Zack Milkovich.

Fusco said he looks to make things happen if elected.

"A lot of folks out there aren't happy with what's going on in Columbus, and instead of sitting back and complaining about what's goin on, I'm going to try and do something about it."

Fusco and Milkovich, both Democrats, will be seeking to represent Ohio's 35th district which includes parts of Akron as well as Barberton.

When asked what he would bring to the table, Fusco said that his experience in government, along with his ability to problem-solve will be a welcome asset in Ohio's capital.

"I've always been one to develop and work with others to come up with solutions to things," he said.

Fusco has a long history in public service, as he was elected Ward 10 councilman from 1986-1993. He also served as the city's Deputy Service Director for from 1997-2007. In 2010 returned to City Council as an at-large councilman.

He says that by going door-to door and meeting with the voters, he will get a better read on what they want in their state.

"It's primarily going out and meeting the voters, and seeing what they want out of there government, and hopefully going down to Columbus and representing them the best way possible.

Current State Rep. Zack Milkovich says that he's not worried about the challenge from Fusco and that he still seeks to represent Ohio's working man and woman.

"Since I've been in office we've been campaigning hard against Senate Bill 5 and Issue 2, and  we're still out there knocking on doors and listening to the people," he said.

The filing deadline is December 7th for the March primary.
