A 20-year-old Canton man believed to be a major force in Stark County's gang world is going to prison for 15 years. Lambino Flowers took a plea deal that included prosecutors dropping charges of felonious assault and murder in connection with the April 2012 shooting death of Anthony Moore, Jr., 17, of Canton. According to the Repository, Flowers entered pleas of guilty to lesser charges of complicity to felonious assault, participating in a criminal gang and gun and gang specifications.
Prosecutors told the newspaper they believe Flowers did murder Moore, but they were concerned that fear of gang retaliation would prevent some key witnesses from ever entering the courtroom if there had been a trial. An attorney for Flowers says his client didn't do it.
The gang affiliation prompted extra security at the Stark County Courthouse, including the presence of the sheriff himself.
