AUDIO Election Day Turnout Good
 11/3/2009 10:56:07 AM  |  Joe Jastrzemski, AkronNewsNow.com

It's Election Day and turnouts at some polling places in Akron is a bit heavier than expected.

For example, in Ward 8, turnout is higher than poll workers were expecting. At Case Elementary, 65 voters had checked in at Precinct 8-B during the first two-and-a-half hours that the polls were open.

In Ward 3-A, Ward 5-A and Ward 6-A between 70 to 80 voters had voted in each of those precincts in the first three hours that the polls were open. In Ward 4-A, there were only 35 voters who cast a ballot.

The issue that drove many Akron voters to the polls early was State Issue Three, the plan to allow casinos to be built at four locations in Ohio.

Only one minor issue effected those who voted in the early morning hours. A campaigner in Ward 8-B was standing closer to the entrance than he was allowed. That problem was taken care of.

The polls close at 7:30 this evening.

i'm surprised they did something about a campaigner being closer to the entrance than allowed....up at patterson park anything goes and if you complain about a violation-no one does anything or cares! they have people by the doors, literature ON THE TABLE inside the polling place, etc....but maybe they don't do anything because those are the 'favored' by the city candidates??
