While important to city council, school board, judicial and other candidates all over Summit County, it's a far cry from last year, when local voter turnout nearly hit 74% as the country elected a new president.

About 20% of registered voters in Summit County are expected to decide the races and the issues in tomorrow's general election, according to Summit County Board of Elections Director Marijean Donofrio.

Donofrio says turnout may have been even less, if it wasn't for State Issue 3.

"I definitely believe that will be a driving force for turnout," said Donofrio.

Some people have reportedly told elections staffers that Ohio's casino issue is the only item on the ballot they planned to mark, but Donofrio says they don't know if that's true until the ballots are counted Tuesday night.

"We have not seen any ballots," said Donofrio.

The numbers:
  • 20,000 - estimated absentee voters
  • 40,000 - predicted Election Day voters
  • 365,000 registered voters in Summit County
Polls open Tuesday morning at 6:30 and close at 7:30 in the evening.
