A Springfield Township boy is dead after he was struck by a car while walking near his home in Springfield Township.
The Canton Post of the State Highway Patrol tells AkronNewsNow.com that Anthony Weakland, 16, was hit at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Weakland, who was walking eastbound on Albrecht Avenue at the time, died shortly after at the scene of the accident.
"We've got investigators out canvassing the neighborhoods and pending the autopsy on the 16-year old, maybe we're learning a little more," Sgt. Dean Christ said.
Christ confirmed that Weakland's home is a short distance from the accident site.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office has planned to conduct and autopsy Wednesday.

A 16-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night in Springfield Township.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office reports Anthony Weakland, 16, of Springfield Township, was walking on Albrecht Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle "that did not stop" around 9:30 p.m.
Weakland was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating the incident.
The Akron Police Department has issued an adult missing person alert. Police are asking for the public's help in locating 28-year old Jorry palm, who was last seen early Saturday morning at Tiny's Tavern on Albrecht Avenue in east Akron. Family and friends have not heard from him since.
Jorry Palm is a white male with sandy colored hair and blue eyes, standing 5' 7" tall and weighing 180 pounds.
Detectives says Palm was last seen with two men and a woman.
He was driving a red 2007 Mazda 6, with a license plate number of FDX3947.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Jorry Palm are asked to contact the Akron Police Department's Missing Person Unit at 330-375-2530.
