Justin Sullivan/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Microsoft has just invited press to a media event in Los Angeles June 18 for a “major announcement.”
Microsoft recently demonstrated a near-final version of its next operating system Windows 8, which is on schedule to release later this year. The company has also been rumored to be in talks to buy Yammer, a social networking tool for business, for $1 billion.

According to Bloomberg, that deal is expected to be announced Friday. Additionally, the company announced updates to its Xbox gaming console earlier this month and Bing search engine.
