The 42nd anniversary of the Kent State May 4th 1970 shootings was filled with commemoration...and questions.

15 bells rang out for the four students killed by National Guard gunfire on campus that day - Allison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, William Schroeder, and Sandra Scheuer - the nine wounded, and two killed at a few days later at Jackson State in Mississippi.

Many of those wounded were present, like Joe Lewis, who says remembering what happened to him 42 years ago does make him bitter.

"Because, you know, four students were murdered that day," Lewis tells AkronNewsNow.com. "and so, that's uppermost in my mind that their memories not be forgotten, and eventually, we get to the truth of what happened here."

The May 4th Center and Task Force again called attention to their effort to find the answer to what happened before four students were shot dead.

But Lewis says he's happy for a growing network of support from the "Kent State family".

Keith Pennington felt drawn to what happened at Kent in 1970, even though he wasn't old enough to go to KSU.

"It happened when I was in high school and it was something that affected me and changed me in high school a bit," Pennington tells AkronNewsNow.com. "I didn't realize they did this until about 8 or 9 years ago, and I've been coming ever since."

The May 4th groups have renewed a call for a new federal probe into the new evidence, an audio recording they say proves a military "fire" order.

They say they're looking for truth, not prosecution.
