An Alabama murderer will soon be on his way home -- back to prison -- after he was nabbed in Alliance.
42-year old Timothy Richards was serving a life without parole sentence when he escaped April 8th from the lockup down south; the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force learned his was in the Alliance area over the weekend and arrested him without incident. He's now in the Stark County jail awaiting extradition.
(US Marshal's Service) Peter J. Elliott the United States Marshal for the northern District of Ohio announces the arrest of Timothy J. Richards, age 42, by the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF). Richards was wanted by the Alabama Department of Corrections on the charges of Escape.
Richards escaped from an Alabama Prison on Sunday April 8th, 2012. Richards is serving a Life Sentence without the Eligibility of Parole on a 2000 Murder Conviction. It was discovered that Richards fled confinement sometime in the early morning hours of Sunday April 8th, 2012. The case was immediately referred to the U.S. Marshals Golf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF), Montgomery, AL Division for assistance. Officers of the GCRFTF over the course of their investigation developed information that Richards may be traveling to the Alliance, OH area and contacted the NOVFTF for assistance.
The NOVFTF Akron and Youngstown Divisions sprang into action and conducted numerous hours of Surveillance in the Alliance, OH area. NOVFTF Task Force Officers narrowed Richards down to an address in the 1300 block of Johnson Ave., Alliance, OH. At approximately 2:20 PM, Task Force Officers moved in and arrested Richards without incident. Richards was transported to the Stark County Jail where he is awaiting extradition to Alabama to serve the rest of his Prison Sentence and new charges of Escape.
