ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – The Black River Pirate softball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a resounding 15-1 victory over host Lutheran West. Pitcher Kayla Finkel filled in admirably for injured ace Dagmar Smith, holding the Longhorns scoreless until junior Em Wilkens hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Black River already ahead 15-0. Finkel also led the offense, hitting a home run of her own, while scoring twice and plating two runners. The Pirates (8-4) lost to Avon Lake in the finals of the JB Firestone tournament and rival Buckeye earlier this week without Smith in the circle. Copyright 2012 SportsInk.
