AUDIO Treat The Flu At Home 10/20/2009 10:24:19 AM | Joe Jastrzemski, AkronNewsNow.com If you contract the so-called seasonal flu or the H1N1 virus, you should feel comfortable to treat the illness at home. advertisement Doctor Gregg DiGiulio, the director of Pediatric Emergency medicine at Akron Children's Hospital, says if you or you child contract the seasonal flu or the H1N1 virus, and you have trouble breathing or are breathing fast, you should head to the Emergency Room. Doctor DiGiulio says at this point, it appears that the H1N1 Virus is not causing illness in any greater degree than we see with the seasonal flu. The difference, according to Doctor DiGiulio, is that people do not have much 'cross immunity' with the illness. That means more people are contracting the flu, but the symptoms are not much worse than the seasonal flu.
Doctor DiGiulio says there is a lot of illness in the schools because children and teens are in closer proximity to each other. Plus, the Doctor says children and teenagers do not have the 'cross immunity' that adults have to try and avoid the flu. Content © AkronNewsNow.com. All rights reserved.
