AUDIO Voter Turnout Delays Results 11/3/2009 11:45:50 PM | Marcy Pappafava, Aaron Coleman, AkronNewsNow.com Voter turnout in Summit County far exceeded expectations and slowed down the process of tabulating results. advertisement Summit County Board of Elections Director Marijean Donofrio says they didn't think so many people would cast ballots in an off year. "Little did we know that possibly Issue 3 or everything else, the local issues and everything else would generate the turnout. I think the weather had a lot to do with it" says Donofrio. Booth workers, she says, got bombarded at around 4:00 p.m. and started requesting more ballots. Donofrio says they just couldn't keep up. The ballot on demand printers have been churning for hours.
She says it took a half and hour to print 100 ballots so it took a while to finish the job. Tallmadge, Twinsburg, Northfield Center Township, Norton, Green and New Franklin all called for more. As for absentee ballots, Donofrio says the board received 16, 693. On the web: Summit County Board of Elections Content © AkronNewsNow.com. All rights reserved.
