Time Warner Rates To Increase For Some Customers
 10/29/2009 1:25:54 PM  |  Larry States, AkronNewsNow.com

Time Warner customers who have stand-alone cable services will see an increase in their cable rates.

Customers with digital tier service will see a $9 monthly increase in their bills in November.

All customers with DVR service will also see an increase to $9.95 a month.

A Time Warner spokesman says those with bundled service including cable, phone and internet will not be affected by the rate increase, with the exception of the increased DVR fee. Time Warner estimates about 70% of Time Warner customers in Northeast Ohio have two or more bundled services.

Time Warner blames escalating programming costs, including sports and broadcast costs for the increase in cable rates.

The increases are effective November 24th.

WHATEVER!!!!!!!!! We have phone, cable and internet bundled and the frickin' bill goes up every 3 months or so (and not just a few dollars each time). We are desperately seeking another provider to bundle with. Time Warner is always looking for any way they can to raise rates. It's ridiculous and disgusting!

Unless TWC is giving you a smoking hot deal on your bundle, move your phone service to Vonage.

I've been with them for several years and am very happy with the service as well as phone rates that are well below SBC/ATT/TWC offer.

If you get serious about this, I'll share some tips concerning free trial period with Vonage, best deal on the equipment, etc.

That would take care of the phone, but what about cable and internet? Does Vonage do those as well?

@ AkronNative,
Sorry , but you have to have some sort of Broadband service, and you know where that leaves you. Anyway across the board Vonage get's the most complaints for service satisfaction, you are locked in to a contract with them, and may god have mercy on your soul if you try to cancel before the contract expires.

a lot of people are just using cell phones instead of a landline....usually people have cell phones anyway....i have earthlink internet and whereas it's serviced by twc and even billed by twc, it's cheaper than roadrunner (but basically the same service)....neighbors got dish network cheaper than twc....might want to explore using different services for phone, internet, cable....though i can understand that might be a pain....could be cheaper though...

@MagicCityMan and Akron Native...

1) Any broadband phone service (Vonage or TWC's) is limited by the quality and speed of your connection. In my personal experience, most people who have a problem are ones on marginal DSL service, not cable modem service.

2) MCM fails to mention that Vonage offers a 30 day, money back guarantee. While you await for your 'number portability' to kick in (assuming that you'll want to keep your existing number) Vonage gives you a temporary number that you can use to test your happiness with the service.

3) Vonage only has a contract period (1 year) IF you use their provided (at no additional cost) device. No contract if you purchase your Vonage adapter from any big box, office or electronics store.

P.S. Last time I checked, TWC's phone service required a 2 year agreement for their discounted (and limited) service which still was higher priced than Vonage's unlimited local and long distance program.

I use magicjack... $20 per year for phone service. TWC is always raising their rates and not mentioning it until you get your bill. Their customer service stinks... question your bill or amount owed and they act like you don't have that right. I am so sick of dealing with them and am currently looking for a new internet and cable company... especially with their new rate increases.

I have had my Magic Jack for almost two years and I must say it is well worth the cost. If you have a broadband connection and a decent pc which you leave on anyways, then it can serve as an inexpensive supplement to having only a cellphone. I give the Magic Jack number out to businesses to cut down on the number of calls using up my cell minutes. You can also register it to work with 911 {I don't know how well this works} and you can easily set it up so that voice mail messages are sent to your email.Of course the main attraction of a Magic Jack is that you can call anywhere in the country as many times ss you want and talk as long as you want for that same measly $20 per YEAR.I occasionally get a bad connection with it, but for the little bit of $ that costs there isn't much room to b@tch and moan about a dropped call.

with the magic jack do you have to speak over a speaker? or can you use a headset? i wouldn't mind having a non-cell phone # but don't want to pay a monthly bill for it as i'd still probably mostly use my cell phone....
